The Gold Coast has been blessed with a huge number of world class attractions in its time, some natural, others made by us humans. The gorgeous beaches are superb. Some have been developed with all of the first world conveniences you could ever desire literally a stones throw away.
Others remain unspoiled, with only the sound of the waves and the sight of the sand.
And pretty much all of them have great surf breaks, with room enough for experts and grommets alike. If you don't know what a grommet is, this means a beginner surfer :)

Ahh the magnificent, and very famous Gold Coast in Australia. With mile after mile of golden sand, a lovely warm climate, and surf breaks that are the envy of surfers world wide.
Blessed with warm waters most of the year round, The Gold Coast is known as one of Australia's premier holiday destinations, and with good reason. The simple good luck of having a great climate means that all of the attractions - both natural and man made - can be enjoyed all year round. Just be prepared for the odd cyclone in the first few months of the calendar year.
This makes it a great place not just to visit, but also to do business. It's no surprise then that most of Australia's national, and international tourist activity has the Gold Coast somewhere on the itinerary.

Surfers Paradise
Perhaps one of the most well known "Brand Beaches" on the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise is at the heart of what is considered the tourist mecca. With tall skyscrapers built right next to the beach, you can be riding the waves one minute, then enjoying a cold drink by the pool the next....then head to the nightclubs to dance the night away. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. What a life.
Surfers Paradise beach itself is stunning. White sand, warm water, good surf. Bonus - if you ever get tired of the beach, there are plenty of other attractions close by, with marinas, Sea World park a few minutes North....and more and more nightclubs and bars.
Not into the bars? There is always King Tutts Putt Putt, Sky Point Observation Deck, Ripley's Believe it or Not, and the Infinity Attraction. Get the picture. So much to see and do and all so close together. Just minutes away is Wet And Wild, as well as Warner Brothers Movie World on the Gold Coast. Days and days of fun right there. And who could forget the Gold Coast Meter Maids. Another great Aussie Invention!
No wonder Surfers (as its called) is such a popular tourist and holiday destination. Surfers itself is between Main Beach and Broad Beach, two very popular destinations in their own right.

Coolangatta Tweed
At the opposite end of the Gold Coast, just over half an hours drive away South from Surfers Paradise is Coolangatta. It feels like almost a world away too - the two locations are so very different.
If you are looking for more of a laid back destination, away from the hustle and bustle and all those tall buildings, Coolangatta is more your style. It is slowly becoming more built up, but when we visited, there were still many places that had a decided 80's style to them. Less traffic, but still great coffee.
Coolangatta's population is about a quarter of that of Surfers Paradise, which explains a lot about the level of busy you will encounter.
Coolangatta was the scene for the 80's movie Coolangatta Gold. This was a fictional movie about a Surf Lifesaver event, however according to some sources, the movie lead to the event becoming an actual annual event.
One big advantage about Coolangatta is that it is right next door to Gold Coast International Airport. You can fly in, get off the plane and be at the beach ten minutes after clearing the plane. How good is that. Bonza mate, we would say. You little ripper!
